M4G interviewe Yôko Shimomura
Une nouvelle interview avec Yôko Shimomura vient d'être publiée sur le site Music 4 Games, dédié à la VGM. Elle s'intéresse principalement à son travail sur drammatica, l'impressionnante compilation orchestrée que Square Enix a publié au début de l'année pour célébrer ses 20 ans dans le métier. Si vous n'avez pas encore écouté drammatica, je vous y invite chaleureusement. La beauté des mélodies de Shimomura couplée à l'interprétation par un orchestre complet est absolument fabuleuse, de la première à la dernière piste. Je me rends compte que j'ai rien écrit à ce sujet ici jusqu'à maintenant. Bien, c'est le moment ou jamais. Parmi mes piste préférées, on trouve celles-ci :
- "Twinkle Twinkle Holidays", un pot-pourri Kingdom Hearts composé de "Happy Holidays!" de KHII Final Mix et "Never Land Sky" du premier épisode. C'est aussi entraînant que ça en a l'air !
- "Tango Appassionata" de Heroes of Mana, qui contient de fantastiques solos de violon et de bandonéon.
- "Forgotten Wings" de Live A Live, probablement l'une des mélodies les plus poignantes de Shimomura. Le piano, en particulier, est une vraie merveille.
- "The 13rd Anthology", une compilation épique de thèmes de combat de la série Kingdom Hearts. Vous ne pourrez plus écouter les pistes originales, après ça.
Je dois avouer que je devrais lister toute la sélection. Ces quatre pistes ont vraiment attiré mon attention car elles ont toutes un certain charme qui les rend extrêmement plaisantes. C'est sans compter sur la présence de la chanson thème hautement tragique de Final Fantasy Versus XIII, "Somnus", interprétée par Andrea Hopkins. Cet album est un véritable must have, comme disent les Anglais.

A new interview with Yôko Shimomura has just been published by VGM website Music 4 Games. It mainly deals with her work on drammatica, the amazing orchestrated compilation Square Enix released earlier this year in order to commemorate her 20 years in the industry. The beauty of Shimomura's melodies coupled with the performance of a full orchestra is absolutely stunning, from the first track to the last. I just realise now I didn't write about this here until now. Well, now is the time, I guess. Among my favorite tracks are the followings:
- "Twinkle Twinkle Holidays", a Kingdom Hearts medley made of "Happy Holidays!" from KHII Final Mix and "Never Land Sky" from the first episode. It is as cheerful as it sounds!
- "Tango Appassionata" from Heroes of Mana, which contains some fantastic violin and bandneon solos.
- "Forgotten Wings" from Live A Live, probably one of the most poignant melodies by Shimomura. The piano, especially, is a true wonder.
- "The 13rd Anthology", an epic compilation of battle themes from the Kingdom Hearts series. You will never listen to the original pieces again, after this.
